Website Development
what is WordPress?
WordPress is an online, open source
website creation tool written in PHP. But in non-geek speak, it’s probably the
easiest and most powerful blogging and website content management system (or
CMS) in existence today.
About WordPress?
WordPress started in 2003 with a
single bit of code to enhance the typography of everyday writing and with fewer
users than you can count on your fingers and toes. Since then it has grown to
be the largest self-hosted blogging tool in the world, used on millions of
sites and seen by tens of millions of people every day.
Everything you see here, from the
documentation to the code itself, was created by and for the community.
WordPress is an Open Source project, which means there are hundreds
of people all over the world working on it. (More than most commercial
platforms.) It also means you are free to use it for anything from
your recipe site to a Fortune 500 web site without paying anyone
a license fee and a number of other important freedoms.
what is website?
A site or website is
a central location of various web pages that are all related and can
be accessed by visiting the home page using a browser. For
example, the Computer Hope website address is https://www.computerhope.com.
The image to the right shows how the Computer Hope website looked in 2011.
How to open a website?
To view a website requires a browser
(e.g. Internet Explorer, Edge, Safari, Firefox,
or Chrome). For example, you are reading this web page using a browser.
Once in a browser, you can open a website by entering the URL in
the address bar. For example, typing
"https://www.computerhope.com" opens the Computer Hope home page. If
you don't know the URL of the website you want to visit, you can use
a search engine to find the website on the Internet.
what is the different between a website and web page?
A
website refers to a central location that contains more than one web page or a
series of web pages. For example, Computer Hope is considered a website, which
contains thousands of different web pages, including the page you're reading
now.
In the above URL example, the website is
computerhope.com and the web page is "url.htm" and is always the last
part of the URL.
who creats websites on the internet?
Any business, government, or person
can create a website on the Internet. Today, the Internet consists of billions
of websites created my billions of different people. You can even create a
website or blog on the Internet.
what is domain name and urls
The universal resource locator, or
URL, is an entire set of directions, and it contains extremely detailed
information. The domain name is one of the pieces inside of a URL. It is also
the most easily recognized part of the entire address. When computer users type
a web address directly into the field at the top of their browser window, it
initiates a process of locating the page requested. To do so, the instructions
contained inside the URL, including the domain name, must correctly point to
that location. The IP address is a numerical code that makes this possible.
what is a domain name?
Domain names
function on the Internet in a manner similar to a physical address in the
physical world. Each part of the domain name provides specific information.
These pieces of information enable web browsers to locate the web page. The
naming system is closely regulated in order to prevent confusion or duplicate
addresses. As demand increased exponentially, a new Internet Protocol version,
or IPv6, was created to expand the amount of domain names available.
how do domain works?
Domain names work because they
provide computer users with a short name that is easy to remember. Users enter
web addresses into the URL field at the top of their browser's page from left
to right. The domain name itself is read from right to left according to the
naming hierarchy discussed below. This link provides directions to the network,
which ultimately results in a successful page load at the client end of the
transaction.
The common fictitious domain name,
www.example.com, is comprised of three essential parts:
.com - This is the top-level domain.
.example. - This is a sub-domain.
www. - This is a sub-domain prefix
for the World Wide Web. The original use of this prefix was partly accidental,
and pronunciation difficulties raised interest in creating viable alternatives.
Many servers use a three-letter
naming convention for top-level domains, and they are separated from
sub-domains by a dot. The significance of the top-level domain is the most important
for new users to grasp. It identifies the highest part of the naming system
used on the Internet. This naming system was originally created to identify
countries and organizations as well as categories.
The most common categories are easily
recognized by new computer users, and they include:
.com
.org
.edu
.net
.mil
A significant expansion of the
top-level domains occurred, and they now include:
.biz
.museum
.info
.name
Country codes are also easily
recognizable to new users because the abbreviations are the same ones used for
other purposes. The organization of the domain name hierarchy and the ability
to reserve them for only one purpose has already undergone several
modifications. Discussions and debates concerning the availability and
affordability of domain names can be expected to continue.
Sub-domains are organized to the left
of the top-level domain, and this is the part of the domain system that is most
recognizable to humans. It is common to see several levels of sub-domains, and
some countries developed specific conventions of organization to communicate
information within their internal naming systems.
what is a web server and how its work?
Web server is a program that uses
HTTP to serve files that create web pages to users in response to their
requests, which are forwarded by their computers HTTP connection.
Any server that delivers an XML
document to another device can be a Web server. A better definition might be
that a Web server is an Internet server that responds to HTTP requests to deliver
content and services.
Let me explain you with a simple
example, I can say if you are in front of your computer, browsing your Web, and
you get a message from a friend saying, "I had just read a great article!
You can check it from the following URL. It's at http://www.fastwebhost.in/blog" So you will type that URL into
your browser and press enter.
And that’s it, no matter where the
website hosted in the world, the page will be displayed on your computer
screen.
Always a web server is connected to
the internet. Every Web server that connects to the Internet will be provided
with a unique address which was arranged with a series of four numbers between
0 and 255 separated by periods.
Also, web server enables the hosting
providers to manage multiple domains(users) on a single server.
different types of web servers
There are different types of web
servers available in open market. The most popular web servers are Apache,
IIS, Nginx and LiteSpeed.
Apache Web Server
Apache is the most popular web
server in the world developed by the Apache Software Foundation. Apache is an
open source software and can be installed on almost all operating systems
including Linux, Unix, Windows, FreeBSD, Mac OS X and more. About 60% of
machines run on Apache Web Server.
An Apache server can be customized
easily as it contains a modular structure. It is also an open source which
means that you can add your own modules to the server when to require and make
modifications that suit your specific needs.
It is more stable than any other web
servers and is easier to solve administrative issues. It can be install on
multiple platforms successfully.
Recent Apache releases provide you
the feasibility of handling more requests when you compare to its earlier
versions.
IIS Web Server
IIS is a Microsoft product. IIS
server has all the features just like Apache. But it is not an open source and
more over personal modules cannot be added easily and modification becomes a
little difficult job.
Microsoft developed, maintains it,
thus works with all the Windows operating system platforms. Also, they had good
customer support if it had any issues.
Nginx Web Server
Nginx is another free open source web
server, it includes IMAP/POP3 proxy server. Nginx is known for its high
performance, stability, simple configuration and low resource usage.
This web server doesn’t use threads
to handle requests rather a much more scalable event-driven architecture which
uses small and predictable amounts of memory under load. It is getting popular
in the recent times and it is hosting about 7.5% of all domains worldwide.
LightSpeed Web Server
LiteSpeed (LSWS) is a
high-performance Apache drop-in replacement. LSWS is the 4th most popular web
server on the internet and it is a commercial web server.
Upgrading your web server to
LiteSpeed will improve your performance and lower operating costs.
This is compatible with most common
Apache features, including mod_rewrite, .htaccess, and mod_security. LSWS can
load Apache configuration files directly and works as a drop-in replacement for
Apache with hosting control panels — replacing Apache in less than 15 minutes
with zero downtime.
Unlike other front-end proxy
solutions, LSWS replaces all Apache functions, simplifying use and making the
transition from Apache smooth and easy. Most of the hosting companies were
using LSWS in recent times.
what is web hosting?
Web hosting
is a service that allows organizations and individuals to post a website or web
page onto the Internet. A web host, or web hosting service provider, is a
business that provides the technologies and services needed for the website or
webpage to be viewed in the Internet. Websites are hosted, or stored, on
special computers called servers.
When Internet users want to view your website, all they need to do is type your website address or domain into their browser. Their computer will then connect to your server and your webpages will be delivered to them through the browser.
Most hosting companies require that you own your domain in order to host with them. If you do not have a domain, the hosting companies will help you purchase one.

types of website.
Regionally, websites were purely
informational. Before the web was opened to the public, educational and
research institutions and government agencies were able to make information
available to each other via text-only websites. Now that we have the World Wide
Web, there are more types of websites than you can shake a stick at. Here we
will discuss the basic types, noting that we will not include all and that
there are hybrids of all those we will discuss.

1. Personal Websites
2. Photo Sharing Websites
3. Writers / Authors Websites
4. Community Building Websites
